Silencing

Sound installation
The sound spectrogram displays frequency in hertz along the vertical axis, time along the horizontal, and brightness representing decibel levels. I collected various sounds — barking dogs, roaring airplanes, children playing — and converted them all into uniform white noise.

As visitors move through the space, they hear these layers of white noise rising and falling. The images show the traces left behind during the process of “silencing” these sounds.
