 Kai Paang (b.1997) lives and works in Chongqing and Shenzhen, China. Working across installation, theatre, painting, video, and sound. His work investigates the expressive and transformative capacities of the body, voice, and space within constructed situations. Through semi-fictional narratives in the mode of speculative fiction, he creates biological allegories around pre-ethical state, the new human, and cultural margins within specific scenographic settings. In late 2024, he founded the Task Force Theatre, extending his engagement with theatre, live performance, and moving image as collaborative and site-responsive practices. 

Recent solo exhibitions and projects include: There are no elephants here, Nothwards Space (Chongqing, 2025); Labor, Labor! Musical Chairs, Organhaus (Chongqing, 2023). His works have awarded the 8th Lalique Nova Art Prize (2024) and has been shortlisted for the 15th National Art Prize (Italy), the 2nd Artissima & Jaguart Prize, the 12th New Star Art Award, the Special Competition Section of Festival Cinema Zero 2021, and the 2nd Hishort! Film Festival.
